A Letter From Future You
$1.00
Description
We’ve heard of writing a letter to our past selves. I’ve done some and usually they all sound like letters of overdue grace triggered by underlining regret. What if we change up the narrative and have our future selves write a letter or a map to our present selves? Writing a letter from our future self would require us to project ourselves into the future – imagine our desires and acknowledge possibilities. The process is insightful and empowering.
Why Should I Write a Letter From My Future self?
Writing a letter from your future self is empowering. Most importantly it allows you to acknowledge your inner most desires, possibilities and create a roadmap of triggers for your brain to follow.
How to Write a Letter From Future You?
It starts with daring yourself to DREAM. Next imagine what did the future you have to do to accomplish that dream life. What challenges did they have to overcome and what does their typical life look like.
Writer’s Block? Try These Tips:
When it comes to writing letters from your future self you may find it hard at first. Afterall we are writing about the destination before even beginning the journey – it’s understandable to find yourself challenged to write your thoughts clearly.
- Relax – THis isn’t an essay contest and it’s soley intended for you. Pour yourself some coffee or go to your favorite coffeehouse with pen and paper and get comfortable. Try to limit your distractions. If you can leave your phone in another room or at home. Trust me, your brain knows your phone is in your bag or pocket. The odds it would distract you are high.
- Choose an age or date you want your future self to be wring from. For new year’s letters write from you dated December 31st a year from today. Freshmen high school kids can also do this from a future them 4 years from now.
- Be Casual – You’re writing a letter to yourself so relax and dont worry too much about the grammar or maintaining a formal tone. Focus on clarity and as if you were talking to your best friend.
- Summarize your future self’s typical day – write about their routine, where they are, how they are feeling, accomplishments and limiting beliefs they had to overcome to get to where they are. What are the skills and abilities they possess. What habits did they have to adopt or drop to achieve their goals? How did they start/drop habits? These are all questions that will help you create a roadmap to your dream life.
